women on Vinalhaven

so much fun, and we will have to be doing it again sometime this fall!
They picked fun things, and really individual.
I did hear though that some of them went swimming in the quarry shortly afterwards though! (completely disregarding the fact that you should, a) leave the henna on for 4-6 hours, and b) that you should avoid water on it for at least that long if not much longer!)
I will just have to go back and henna them all again this fall!

girls afternoon

Very fun gathering of women! They all had their nails done and then gathered to get henna. The woman in the middle is the bride.

This one was my favorite.....

A very different pre wedding event than the one in Greenwich... very low key, with margaritas and great munchies!

punjabi wedding

I was lucky enough to do henna at a pre-wedding event in Greenwich for about 500 guests. It was beautiful with so many incredible sarees, fabulous music and dance performances. I hennaed with Carrie and Kayan for 3 1/2 hours.

(these were taken before the event started, as they were setting up. The bride is the one in the gorgeous red saree)

always popular

This has been popular lately. I was inspired by the work of Carrie, as I will be working with her at a large indian wedding event. Her designs are beautiful.

This I did on a friend, and embellished it with glitter paste. She loved it!

birthday party

These girls had so much fun picking out their henna designs for Ana's sleep-over birthday party!

Multi- cultural event

Star Henna was able to do 2 events in the last few weeks at ESPN! We had 2 artists at each event, and henna'ed about 40 people an hour during the busier of the two events. It is always fun to work there.

better backgrounds

Again, I am inspired by another artist to work on taking photos of my henna work with better backgrounds. It makes such a difference. I am working on creating another photobook of my work too. I feel the old one, which I had been so proud of, is not nearly up to what I can do now! I love finding work that is inspiring and challenging myself to duplicate it.

I did a fun party and hennaed about a dozen women. They chose really diverse patterns, and it was fun to be there for 3 1/2 hours.

Inspired...

I was asked to join another henna artist at an event in a few weeks. I checked out her gallery and loved her work! I am inspired to practice some of the designs she has done. I also love that she photographs her work so well, and that I need to work on this aspect. She has beautiful backgrounds to set off her work. I would love to indulge in more silks and things to use as backdrops for photographing my work.

beautiful belly

This woman was wonderfully expectant and I was invited to henna her belly at her baby shower. She incorporated all sorts of things to pamper herself, and to celebrate the baby. She had chosen a few designs for me to work from, and I thought the finished product was beautiful!

I continued hennaing most of the guests as well, and spent about 2 hours there. Her sister wanted something on her neck, and I created this to enhance her beautiful lines.

if you have to lose your hair...

I had hennaed Lindsay's hands before she had lost her hair from chemo....
After she lost her beautiful locks, we hennaed her head for an event. We spent a few hours, and incorporated quite a few designs that she wanted. I tried to make them all work together. This was the first time I had done something like this. We had a fun afternoon together!

hands

I loved how this one came out on my friend Meg's hand.... I started it as one design, and kind of morphed it into another....

I thought it came out great... and it lasted for a while too.

then I did this one on my hand, as I wanted something under my ski mittens :)

a fun surprise birthday party

what a great and fun evening..... a 'girls night in' birthday party where they surprised the birthday girl with henna!

for the party

I hennaed both of Lindsay's hands... left....and right....
(this pattern was inspired by a great little metal case that Lindsay had brought with her)
her mom's first henna....

I hennaed hands last night for a beautiful girl. Her name is Lindsay, she is in her 20's, and she recently was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I have had the priviledge of meeting this young woman, who is taking on her disease with a fabulous attitude and she is determined to beat it, as I can imagine she will.

She is going to a wonderful place in Bloomfield (IMG) and she is doing all sorts of things to be proactive about helping her body rid itself of the disease. And she is the healthiest "sick" person I have ever seen.

When I met her a few weeks ago, we had talked aboout hennaing her head when/ if she lost her hair. She hasn't. So I hennaed her hands for a big party tonight that they are having for her. I am pleased to do henna for her.

Inspirations

I bought this box of Yogi tea since there were some great henna designs on the box. I immediately went home and created the design from the corner of it, onto my hand. Loved it, and got great compliments on it.

belly henna

I was honored to create this on a wonderfully busy baby. He was incredibly active throughout the whole time I was painting. The mom wanted something kind of intricate in the middle, then branching out on the sides. I had a paisley on my hand at the time, and she loved it, and wanted it to be the center. I did the paisley and then grew it from there.

henna rock

I just spent a week on a small island in Maine. It was peaceful and we had beautiful weather.
We spent time painting rocks, which I love doing.

This one I painted and left for our friends who own the boathouse we stayed in.

ESPN event

We had a fabulous time doing henna at an event for ESPN today. It was incredibly busy, and we had a line, and painted for 3 1/2 hours. It was a great venue and a fun day, with tons of music and dancing and good food, and luckily great weather too.

People were asking for some creative things, and it was great trying to accommodate for everyones wishes. We painted as fast as we could and I think we hennaed about 200 people. They would like us to come back again, which we will happily do.

We were so busy doing henna, that I hardly took any photos. Here are some of the few I did take:
(I will have to email my contact at ESPN and see if we can get some of the photos from their photographers, as we didn't even take any pictures of our tent, or anything)

We will be announcing a raffle winner in the next few days. Check back here to find out who won!
